Mental Fitness

“When I get there, then I’ll be happy.”

Well, what happens when that’s not the case?

The idea that you will find happiness and confidence when you reach the goal is a complete MYTH. . Fitness is just as much of a mental journey as it is a physical one, and those hills and valleys aren’t going anywhere just because you decide that you are ready to change your life. When you embrace the mental process, therein lies the magic of the transformation.

There were years I spent physically healthy but mentally tumultuous. I didn’t even recognize myself in my own skin sometimes. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing… I needed to differentiate between my sense of self and the outcome.

Maybe your challenge is in building the habits that will make you successful. You could have the most beautiful outcomes and not even know it. Or maybe you do know, but you are still unsatisfied. This could potentially lead to riskier challenges like disordered eating or over-training to overcome your feelings, then all of a sudden you have another valley to navigate and you are further from your goals.

Now… I’ll share with you ways you can overcome the mental battle.

1. Get a trainer who you connect with

It goes without saying that a good trainer will get you closer to your goals much faster than you could do on your own, but you need someone who you also trust mentally, spiritually… some way other than just physically. Your coach is your guide and your resource. Find one who seeks to understand you on a deeper level who is also knowledgeable about fitness.

2. Learn to give yourself grace

Your worth is not tied to how much you can achieve. Your worth was already decided and declared when Jesus died on the cross. Be patient with yourself. You will be bad at things, and that’s okay. You will fall off, but that’s okay. Give yourself permission to be a learner. How else will you get better?
